10 Gorgeous Lipsticks for Fall

Things have definitely changed outside here.  Certain days the wind chills you to the bone and the leaves have all started to fall.  People hustle to their cars quicker than before.  Boots are on ever other set of feet and pea-coats and belted trenches have made their way back already.  Winter’s threat is just around the corner and Spring feels very far away.

If you are anything like me and you carry around 10-15 lip products in your purse at any given time, its definitely time you pulled out those spring and summer shades and replaced them with something more season appropriate.  I pulled out all my watermelon and peach shades and have replaced them with shades lending themselves more to the berry, grape and raisin variety.  (Have you ever noticed all the fruit references before?!?!)

So, I wanted to share with you my 10 Favorite Lip Products for Fall 2012. (in no particular order – click to enlarge)

My Top Ten Lipsticks for Fall 2012

Russian Red

lipsticks perfect for fall

Russian Red is a part of MAC’s Matte Lipstick collection which are available for purchase at MAC stores or counters at your local department stores.  Retails for $17.50 CAD or $14.50 US.  It is a beautiful true red, not really lending itself to either cold or warm tones.  Long lasting and not at all drying, MAC’s lipsticks are what made them famous and as the weather turns colder a nice bold red lip can add a classy pop of colour to any look.  For more swatches of Russian Red, please click here.

"Moody" by tarte, lip swatch

Tarte’s LipSurgence natural lip tint’s are some of my absolutely favourite lip products.  They are peppermint infused so they have a minty scent and are a nice hydrating product for your lips.  Because this product is a tint and not a lipstick it goes on sheer and stays put like a stain.  Moody is a nice deep berry that enhances your natural lip colour creating a richer looking lip.  This product is available for purchase at Sephora and retails for $31.00 CAD or $24.00 US.

Black Honey

lip swatch of "Black Honey" by Clinique

Black Honey is a shade that the majority of beauty blogger’s have owned at one time or another.  Clinique’s Almost Lipstick collection is known for its lightweight sheer pigment that merges with your lip colour creating a unique look for every one.  Black Honey is a deep blackened raisin shade with a soft shine.  Available at your local department stores or at Sephora.  Retails for $19.00 CAD or $15.00 US.

A Different Grape

"A Different Grape" lipstick swatch by Clinique (on lips swatch)

Clinique’s Different Lipstick  collection is aimed at feeling smooth and comfortable on, while providing a wide range of shades.  “A Different Grape” is a pinkish grape shade that covers well and brings lots of colour to your lips without being overpowering.  This product is available at your local department stores or at Sephora. Retails for $19.00 CAD or $15.00 US.

Heather Moon

dark plum/mauve lipstick by Clinique

I absolutely love this shade for fall.  It is a nice deep mauve/plum shade that applies like a dream, is long wearing and doesn’t dry out your lips.  Clinique’s Long Last Lipstick collection is available at your local department stores or at Sephora.  Retails for $19.00 CAD or $15.00 US.

For Keeps

For Keeps swatch by MAC

Strathmere, Ottawa - outdoor winter wedding

I should definitely be a big fan of this one, considering it is the shade I wore for my wedding!  MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipcolour collection is by far the longest lasting of all of these products and the biggest pain in the butt to get off.  They are completley non transferrable when drinking, eating or kissing – so you never have to worry about patchy looking lips with this.   Not something I like to use everyday, but it is perfect for when you don’t want to worry about touch-ups or smearing.  “For Keeps” is described as a rose-plum with iridescence.  This is available at MAC stores or counters at your local department stores.  Retails for $28.00 CAD or $23.00 US.

"Hope" by tarte lip swatch

The same product as “Moody” from above, “Hope” offers a matte finish in a warm rose colour, perfect for fall.  Products from Tarte’s LipSurgence natural matte lip tint collection are available for purchase at Sephora and they retail for $31.00 CAD or $24.00 US.

"Unchanging" swatch by MAC

This was the runner up when selecting my wedding lipstick.  A fantastic product, but I opted for the slightly more noticeable shade.  Unchanging is a soft neutral lilac pink from MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipcolour collection and is available at MAC stores or counters at your local department stores.  Retails for $28.00 CAD or $23.00 US.

Berry Rich

great berry coloured lipsticks for fall

Berry Rich is exactly what it claims to be, a rich berry shade that isn’t too bright for autumn.  It adds a beautiful pop of colour without being too overpowering.  New York Color’s (NYC) Ultra Last Lipwear  line is available at your local drug store or Wal-Mart for anywhere from $1.50-$2.00.  The packaging certainly looks and feels cheap and you always want to make sure you always have it close for touch-ups.  But for the price, this is great value.  I was impressed and pleasantly surprised.

nude lipsticks for Fall 2012

Celebutard is a nude peach beige perfect for creating a polished natural look this fall.  Absolutely perfect for a bold make-up look or a dramatic smokey eye where you want your lips to compliment rather than compete.  Kat Von D’s Painted Love Lipstick collection is available at Sephora on-line or in-store for $23.00 CAD or $19.00 US.

Although some of these shades are bold, they aren’t super bright the way spring and summer lip colours tend to be.  These 10 lip products give you variety between soft, matte and muted or deep, rich and daring…as well as everything in between.

What are your favorite lipsticks this fall?  And how many do you have in your purse right now???

Thanks for reading!

  1. Great recommendations, Shannon! I’ve been reaching for bolder shades, like proper red lipsticks and so on. I never really keep a lot of makeup in my bag. Most of the time I pick out what I want to wear that day and put it in, but that’s about it! I do have a couple of emergency my lips but better shades in there though. Love your wedding pictures!

    • Hi Sunny! Thanks for visiting and commenting of course. 🙂 Do you have a shade that you find yourself wearing more often than anything else right now?

And it sounds like I need to take lessons from you in regards to your purse management. My purse always starts out with only one lipstick and one gloss. And then the next day, I wear something else and throw it in…and then the day after that the same thing happens. Before I know it my purse is full of everything under the sun. I definitely need to remember to take out and not just add, otherwise it snowballs! LOL

  2. I didn’t know there was NYC at walmart … 😦

    October 27, 2012 at 1:26 pm

    • Yeah, you can here. Not to be confused with NYX. NYX is a much harder brand to find in Canada, but NYC is most everywhere.

  3. Wow that’s a lot of lipsticks in your purse! 🙂 All of them are really pretty! I’ve never really seen Russian red by MAC swatched, I LOVE it!!! That will definitely be my next purchase from MAC! xx

    October 27, 2012 at 1:53 pm

    • I know – far too many in my purse!

I can’t wait to see Russian Red on you, it will be gorgeous. It is a great red that looks good on pretty much every skin tone, such a nice red! Not too “berry” and not too orange. Thanks for commenting Nicole, its always great to have you visit! 🙂

  4. I wish Tarte was sold in the UK 😦
But I’m really loving MAC Russian Red. I already own Ruby Woo, but a girl can never have enough reds, right?

    October 28, 2012 at 5:04 am

    • Haha Glesni, so true! A girl can never have too many reds!! And Russian Red is really beautiful, probably my favourite from the ones that I own. The matte finish is really classy and pretty. I need to do the bold red lip more!!

I didn’t know Tarte wasn’t available in the UK. 😦 Hopefully they will make their way soon, I love their products…their LipSurgence line especially! I wonder if you can order off of ebay for a very similar price. The only trouble with that is you don’t ever get to touch and feel and smell anything until you’ve bought it…and then you have no way of sending it back. But I guess thats what beauty blogs are for, so you have an idea of what you want first!

  5. gorgeous!! this might sound weird but you have beautiful lips lol i feel like a hillbilly american like “you have a pretty mouth!”. i’ve wanted black honey forever and you’re making me want it more!

    October 28, 2012 at 7:00 pm

    • Thanks Holly – that is sweet of you to say. It’s like when I compliment your crazy pretty lashes. LOL

Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean we are hill-billies!

Black Honey is really nice for when you don’t want lipstick, but when you want a little something more than lip balm. It’s a great consistency, you have got to try it! 🙂

Hope and unchanging are so pretty!

    October 28, 2012 at 7:50 pm

    • Hey – thanks for checking out my blog! I really like both of those lipsticks too. “Hope” is great when you want a little bit more colour, but “Unchanging” goes great with anything! On their own, the MAC Pro Longwear Lipcolours can feel a little dry, but it comes with a clear gloss so your lips are always feeling smooth and looking glossy.

You can actually get “Hope” right now in an awesome value pack at Sephora. It’s basically like you get a bunch of free product. You can check it out here if you want: https://eyemasq.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/give-me-some-lip/

  8. Great list. Russian Red is what I call “scary red.” 😀 Congrats on your wedding!

    October 31, 2012 at 5:12 pm

    • Hey Nicole – thank you! Russian Red can certainly be a little scary, but it has its time and place. 🙂

      October 31, 2012 at 6:54 pm

  9. You lookso beautiful! I love all of these, not as much of a fan ax celebutard tho 😦 but my fave is probably berry rich

    October 31, 2012 at 7:41 pm

    • Hey Amanda – glad you popped by! To make Celebutard work, I think you really need an intense make-up look to go along with it. It wouldn’t look right with soft and natural make-up, it would just wash the person out in my opinion. Berry Rich is really such a pretty shade isn’t it!?! I was really pleasantly surprised by it – what a good deal! I want to go check out what other shades they have now. For that price its impossible to go wrong I thinK. 🙂

      • It sure is, its gorgeous, i get what you mean aout pairing it up with the right eye make up

        November 1, 2012 at 9:45 am

        • Just on the weekend actually I wore Celebutard with a very bright and colorful eye makeup look. Not sure if it was the perfect choice or not, but something subtle was definitely called for. I will post about it soon and you can see what you think! 🙂 You’ll either love it, or be more convinced that you hate it! LOL

          November 1, 2012 at 12:04 pm

        • Im sure ill love it ur looks are always awesome! Cant wait to see it

        • Look with Celebutard up now! https://eyemasq.wordpress.com/2012/11/02/date-night-makeup/ Let me know what you think. Want to know if you like it or if you think I should’ve gone with something a little more berry pink? I can’t decide!

          November 2, 2012 at 1:41 pm
